When we arrived at our hosts home, in our room was sitting a book entitled "A Brief History of Siam". So, this page will hopefully give you a glimpse at the history of Thailand between the information I retain from the book and the information I retain from the tour guides and comments our host family makes. Although previously known as the Siam Empire, in the early 1900's the name was changed Thailand, meaning "the land of the Thai people". There have been nine Rama kings, the current king being Rama IX. There has never been a female ruler of Thailand. Some think there is a chance that there will be one when elections come up this following year. |
